The Most Exciting Fall Item for me!

Here in Texas, the beautiful fall weather has finally arrived. What a relief after a summer full of 100-degree plus days! So, what is the thing I am MOST excited to wear when fall comes around? BOOTS! Of all shapes, heights, and colors! So what are the boot options for 2008?

The classic, high-heeled, knee-high boot is always in style. You could go with a basic, black, zipped up style. Or, you can tweak it to make it fresh for this year! The best thing you can do for chicness (and for the sake of your feet!) is buy a pair of basic black or brown boots with a hidden platform sole. This feature has become more and more of a trend in the last 3-4 years, originally popularized by the late Yves St. Laurent in his pumps a
nd sandals. Another fun way to make the basic knee high boot your own is to add buckles. It can be just one buckle or a whole row of them down the side or the back of the boot shaft. They give your footwear some flair!

But what if you want to "step out" of your comfort zone and funk it up a little bit? What kind of boots should you go for? You'll want something trendy enough to make heads turn but not so trendy that you'll only get 6 months of use out of them. You have several details that you can play with to
make this kind of boot part of your wardrobe. First, how about mixing up the color? Typically, we all tend to make sure we have a pair of brown boots and a pair of black boots and consider ourselves set for the season. But believe it or not, red is a great neutral color that goes with just about every other shade out there. Black, white, gray, cream, royal blue, jewel tones of any sort - they all work with a deep crimson! But don't stop there! Branch out and try a beautiful winter white or cream, or a deep gray.

Finally, for you gals out there who just want to get funky, it's a wide open playing field. You can go with an alternative fabric, like flannel. Or, check out a multi-colored pair with a contemporary applique. Finally, why not snag a truly unique pair of leather cutout boats with a cage design? While there is a possibility that some or none of these will be in style 10 years from now, you'll stand out for the next year or two at least!

In conclusion, boots can dress an outfit up or down. They are available in pretty much any design, color, fabric, or height that you want! So, happy boot shopping everyone! Check back in a day or two for a continuation of this post where I'll explore the newest trend in footwear - booties!

Intro to Fashion

Well, after 2 years of saying I'm going to do it, I'm finally starting my blog about my passion for fashion! Let me tell you a little about myself and my background. My name is Megan, and I have worked in fashion for about 5 years. I have always loved clothes and jewelry but did not "come into my own" style-wise until my mid 20's. I began my retail career with Cache in 2003 and worked for them for 4 years. Then I worked as a store manager for BCBG Max Azria. That position opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that fashion provides. One tiny accessory can change an entire outfit. Add a belt, change the shoes, and it looks like a different dress. I'm working on starting my own business as a personal shopper, so any suggestions, comments, feedback, or criticism on any of my posts are more than welcome, and in fact, encouraged.

So, let's get started! First, let me set one thing straight. This is not going to be a blog about designer, runway collections. For the every day working girl, stay at home mom, or "does it all" woman, designer runway clothing is rarely practical or logical. My blog will, however, give tips for turning the trends of today into something you can wear in your every day life. No one wants to break the bank on a consistent basis to be fashion forward. The good news is, you don't have to! Whew! What a relief! :)

How many of you were appalled when you read about plaid being the it thing for fall? I know I was. Plaid works for a lot of people. Plaid also doesn't work for a lot of people, including myself. It reminds me of kilts and galoshes. However! Do not despair! You can work plaid into your wardrobe in many ways without wearing it head to toe. It's all about the accessories girls! Add a pair of green plaid pumps with a touch of patent leather to your little black dress. Or, add a sky blue and black plaid belt to your t-shirt and skinny jeans. Finally, a unique, embellished plaid purse can spice up any evening outfit! With accessories, the trend will stick around for much longer than if you go the "entire plaid outfit" route. All items below are under $100 a piece, so you'll have plenty of cash left over!

Ok fashion divas! Until next time, happy shopping!
